- Ford has stated that while the transmission is used in multiple applications, each transmission is optimized and integrated differently depending on the engine it is mated to. The 6R80 features 'Filled for Life' low viscosity synthetic transmission fluid (MERCON LV), though a fluid flush is recommended at 50,000 miles if your truck falls under.
In subsequent years, this transmission, known as the 6R60/75/80, began showing up in Explorer, Mountaineer, F150, and Mustang vehicles. The 6R60/75/80 automatic transmission provides six forward speeds using these components: a four-element torque converter which houses a multi-disc lockup clutch 3 driving clutches — clutches A, B, and E. Works with 6R80 transmission from a Modular V8 such as a 5.0 and 5.4 liter and be from a 2011 or newer vehicle for an aftermarket controller to work. The V6 transmissions will not work. Will also work with 4R70W, 4R75W, 10R80, 5R110, 4R100, 6R140 (w/V8 gas case).

This same kit was used to win the 6R80 shootout class at the Mod Nationals in 2017. The winning car was a twin turbo 2016 GT built by The Shop in CT. Best time from the weekend was an 8.32@161mph with a 1.29 60ft time.
